The idea for Melting Pot Moms began when I was pregnant with my first son.  I had moved to a new city, and was preparing for my new life as a "SAHM" (stay-at-home-mom).  As any Virgo/Type-A mom would do, I started researching mom's clubs and playgroups in my area.  And while there were many great groups of women right in my own backyard, I was hard-pressed to find the diversity I had experienced back in my hometown of Seattle, WA.  The city I moved to in Orange County, CA was listed as 76% Caucasian;  so I figured the odds of my son growing up with a diverse group of friends were not too high. ;-)

Baby boy #2 came along, and big brother started preschool.  A defining moment happened for me when we brought home his first class photo: my little "honey man" was the only non-Caucasian child in his class(!).  It was then that I knew it was time to work on my "third child", Melting Pot Moms.  About twelve families came to our first Meet & Greet, and membership continued to grow very quickly.  I was amazed to find out how many moms in my area had the same longing I had - to raise our children in a culturally and ethnically diverse environment to nurture their own sense of self, while expanding their horizons and allowing them to experience other cultures first-hand.

Melting Pot Moms has truly been a grass-roots effort, and I am so grateful to all our "founding mothers" who have lent their un-ending support and encouragement.  Their stories and friendship have touched me deeply, and they motivate me every day to reach higher.  All of our organizers work tirelessy to provide enriching opportunities for our membership while balancing the demands of home and work.  It is truly a labor of love!

As our membership continues to expand throughout the nation, I am excited to take our organization to the next level.  I believe that as mothers we have the opportunity to raise a new generation that is more culturally educated and globally-minded than ever before.  I look forward to sharing that vision with other Melting Pot Moms as we create a supportive, educational, and inspiring environment in which our families can thrive.

Best wishes to you and your families~
